Sickle Cell Disease (often called SCD) is a hereditary blood condition where the red blood cells become rigid and crescent-shaped (“sickle”) instead of round. These abnormal cells don’t move smoothly through blood vessels, so they can block blood flow and break down faster than normal cells.
