Details
Elijah Dottery, now 10, was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia at birth.
His family eventually transferred to U-M for Elijah's care, where he received a bone marrow transplant donated by his mother.
Elijah was also the first U-M patient to receive mesenchymal stem cell therapy after FDA approval. He completed his final stem cell therapy in January 2026 and his health has continued to improve.
