Sickle Cell Disease Regional Care Excellence Program (SoRCE) is to improve the health of people with sickle cell disease (SCD) by expanding access to care, improving the quality of care, and tracking quality of life indicators. There are approximately 100,000 people in the United States with SCD. Treatment starting in early childhood can prevent or reduce complications such as severe pain episodes, silent strokes, and premature death. Despite universal identification at birth, fewer than half of children with SCD receive needed treatment.
