Sickle cell disease is one of the most painful illnesses anyone can live with, and sadly many families become financially, emotionally, and mentally exhausted after years of hospital visits, medications, blood transfusions, and constant crises.
But one dangerous thing happening in some homes is when frustration and disappointment turn into the belief that sickle cell is “only spiritual” and should no longer be treated medically.
Imagine a mother who has spent all her savings and capital trying to help her child. Years pass, the child still gets crises, and out of pain and hopelessness she begins to believe doctors are only draining money because there is no “complete healing.” She stops buying medications, stops taking the child to the hospital, and depends only on prayers while the child suffers in severe pain.
