Health workers in Iganga district have raised alarm over what they
described as worrying cases of sickle cell disease, disclosing that
between 5 and 10 new cases are registered weekly.
They underscore ignorance, myth and reluctance to test as major factors
hindering fight against the disease burden.
Sister Habiba Namusuwa, a registered nurse in charge of sickle cell
clinic at Iganga General Hospital, told this publication that between five
and ten cases of the disease are registered during the weekly Friday
sickle cell clinic.
“Every Friday during our sickle cell clinic, we register between five and
ten new cases of the disease,” Sr Namusuwa said.
