I have lived with sickle cell all my life. I know what pain feels like

Details

The kind of pain that makes you cry in silence because nobody around you truly understands what your body goes through every single day.

People hear you have sickle cell and immediately look at you like you already have a de@th sentence. But they don’t see the strength it takes to keep living, smiling, and fighting through the pain.

There was a night I was in so much pain that I begged God to take my life while my mum watched helplessly beside me. No mother deserves to watch her child suffer like that.

This is the reality of many sickle cell warriors every day. Some are fighting silently behind their smiles.

People need to pay more attention to sickle cell disease, show more love, and stop treating it like a hopeless condition.” — Adekunle Gold
