TODAY'S HEALTH TIP
TYPES OF SICKLE CELL DISEASE
Many people know about sickle cell disease, but few know there are different types.
HbSS (Sickle Cell Anemia) – The most common and usually the most severe form.
HbSC Disease – Usually milder than HbSS but can still cause serious complications.
HbS Beta Thalassemia (HbSβ⁰ or HbSβ⁺) – A combination of sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia. Symptoms can range from mild to severe.
HbSD, HbSE, and Other Rare Types – Less common forms that may still cause sickle cell-related symptoms.
Knowing your genotype is important because it helps healthcare providers plan the best care for you.
