The Children’s Wing at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital has held a sickle cell health camp aimed at sensitising communities about the disease, which remains highly prevalent in the Busoga region at 16.7%, above the national average of 13.3%.
Health workers say about six children die from sickle cell complications each month, calling for urgent intervention. The campaign comes ahead of World Sickle Cell Day, marked on June 19.
