The first patient with sickle cell disease (SCD) treated with the base-editing therapy CS-206 in China remained free of vaso-occlusive crises for over 15 months, according to a recent press release.

CorrectSequence Therapeutics (Correctseq), the developers of the treatment, also reported that the patient remained free from vaso-occlusive crises and anemia for 13 consecutive months starting from 60 days after the last red-cell transfusion.

Follow-up data showed CS-206 had favorable safety and efficacy.

The patient, a 21-year-old woman, experienced recurrent, severe vaso-occlusive crises prior to initiating treatment with CS-206.
