What I’ve Learned Through Personal Training With Sickle Cell

Sickle Cell Anemia

About 10 years ago, I signed up for a personal training session. At the time, I wasn't open or honest about having sickle cell. So, when I showed up for the session, the trainer had no idea about my condition. The workout ended up being extremely difficult, and afterward, I felt sick and ended up vomiting in the toilet. I never went back. I was bed-bound for days, and strangely, I blamed the trainer for pushing me too hard instead of recognizing that the responsibility was on me to communicate about my condition and my limits.
