“Worst pain in your life”: Mother supports son’s 30-year battle with sickle cell anemia

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — It’s a phrase constantly repeated by blood banks: donate blood and save up to three lives.

But for Malik Waldon, he’s living proof that those donations really are life-giving.

“Severe pain. Worst pain in your life,” Malik said. “Way, way, way above ten.”

For the past 30 years, Malik has been in and out of the hospital.

“So many IVs. They stick you with the needle so many times I became a pincushion,” he said. “I’ve spent birthdays in the hospital, Christmases.”
